Strong Turnout for First AGM of Hayling Island Beach Hut Association

Published on 9 March 2026 at 22:00

More than 70 beach hut owners and supporters gathered on 8 March for the first Annual General Meeting of the Hayling Island Beach Hut Association at the Hayling Community Centre. The meeting was also attended by local councillors Jonathan Hulls and Mark Coates, reflecting the growing interest in the Association and its work on behalf of beach hut licence holders.

The AGM reviewed the Association’s first year and confirmed the committee that will lead its work going forward.

Chairperson Paul Burrows outlined the progress made since the Association was formed, with early efforts focused on establishing the organisation and beginning dialogue with the council on issues affecting beach hut licence holders.

Members confirmed the committee for the coming year:

  • Chairperson: Paul Burrows

  • Vice Chairperson: Colin Falla

  • Treasurer: Colin Falla

  • Joint Secretaries: Irene Sherlock and Jane Doel

  • Committee Member: David Lawlor

During the meeting, members formally adopted the Association’s constitution, providing a framework for how the organisation will operate and evolve in the future.

As the Association is still in its early stages, no income or expenditure was recorded during the initial period, and no membership fee is currently planned while the committee explores small funding options to cover basic costs.

Sorry couldn’t make the meeting this time , hopefully I will in the future.
I personally think we should be reinstated with a parking permit and the second one half price .
Although a few islanders say it doesn’t to them , it really matters to many others . Especially for families and elderly to enjoy their huts more .
The parking fees are far to expensive!!

Apologies for not attending the meeting.
I think we should have parking permits as part of our extortionate fees. Our hut is near the skate park so parking is difficult there largely due to no bay markings so it becomes a free for all regarding space, not price. The parking area is dreadful, especially after rainfall,
